Inside Caravaggio's Studio

A brief glimpse of 17th century Italy, in the studio of Michelangelo Merisi, named Caravaggio after the village of where he was born.

Caravaggio elaborately staged his themes before commencing the actual painting. Some have said that his detailed sets, intense lighting, and sustained posing actually burned an image onto the canvas which could be placed behind -- hence the first forms of photography via camera obscura
