French Auction Aids Autism Research

Paris - Tajan Auction House and Autisme France are pleased to announce the sale « Un puzzle pour l’autisme/ a puzzle for autism» which will be tomorrow, Wednesday, April 24 at 20h:30 CET.

Art collectors of Art Kabinett social media network will be bidding live on the Internet and in-person for this exciting event.

This benefit auction follows in the steps of the successful 2012 benefit auctions, which have attracted numerous generous bidders : « Régine, Mode et petits papiers » benefiting Habitat et Soin, « Cluj, Fabrica de Pensul » for the contemporary Romanian creation, and Louis Vuitton/Kusama for the Monegasque Red Cross.

It also follows last week's astounding auction at Artcurial, whereby artistically rendered bricks raised hundreds of thousands of euros for children in Madagascar.

"A Puzzle for Autism" is a project born of the encounter of two different worlds: artists who play with light and autistic people who it difficult to emerge from the shadows.

Autism still remains a disability largely unknown to the general public but also to the medical and paramedical staff. The lack of training and information tends to delay the correct diagnosis and an appropriate treatment.

The non-profit organization “Autisme France” hopes to launch an information and awareness campaign, train physicians and speech therapists to recognize the symptoms, and provide training for qualified assistants, who will help autistic children develop their autonomy and become better integrated into society.

At this benefit auction, which will be held after the Contemporary Art sale, bidders will have the opportunity to purchase an original artwork and, at the same time, make a generous and beneficial contribution.

Tajan specializes in "Impressionist and Modern Art, Contemporary Art, 20th Century Decorative Arts and Design, Old Master Paintings, 17th to 19th century Furniture and Decorative Arts, Jewels and Watches, Asian Art, Islamic Art, Antiquities, Wine and Spirits, Comic art and books, Prints, Books and Manuscripts, Weapons, etc.

Tajan is also well-known for being the first auction house to have organized specialized sales of Comic Strips, Russian Art, Weapons and Memorabilia, and Wine.

At this sale, no buyers fees will be collected by the auction house -- typically 23% of the hammer price -- and each of the 57 wood pieces offered carries a pre-sale estimate of €500.

Fifty seven artists have agreed to contribute their talent and fame to the benefit of Autisme France. Each artist has created an original work to be included in a giant jigsaw puzzle made of solid oak.

A jigsaw puzzle symbolizes the mystery still associated with autism and the slow, progressive pace of research: the puzzle takes shape piece by piece offering great hope to the patients and their families.
